Pyrex LOVE!!!

For some reason, I searched for Pyrex on Etsy. Why oh why did I do that?!?!?!

Well, I have been in love with Pyrex for some time- since my father in law somewhat reluctantly gave me these bowls:

I knew Pyrex was good before that and I looked for good casserole dishes and stuff at thrift stores, but after that I was…. obsessed!! My sister got some mixing bowls for me that feature the Butterprint design and the Embroidery print.

Anyway, I searched and purchased this gorgeous cinderella bowl with the gooseberries print:

I was so excited waiting for it to come- I decided to go out searching this past weekend! I went to Goodwill and to St.Vincents. Interestingly enough, Goodwill had the better prices and selection. Not that selection mattered, as I bought every piece of pyrex they had, with the exception of damaged pieces. It was quite a haul!!

And this one I convinced myself to get at St.Vincents.

I guess it’s become an official obsession- at least this is more long term than the bento, right!! Well, presumably anyway.

ETA: I came back to edit this post because first, I wanted to tell you about this awesome website Pyrex Love which has a history of pyrex, along with pictures of the available designs and a link to a flickr photo group which shows off people’s pyrex collections. This is where my jaw DROPPED!!! I thought I had a nice sized collection! This is incredible!! Don’t forget to check it out!

A new hobby?

I know, just what I need, right?

Anyway, I made this for my sister in law. I’ve been dreaming up some wallhangings for a long time, but this is the first time I actually made one. I learned A LOT!! Like, it’s really hard to get curved seams to lay flat and that when applying bias around the edges, it’s really not just as easy as applying one side and then sewing down the other side. It makes the corners boxy. In fact, I think you can tell that I mostly sew 3D things from looking at this.

Anyway, here is is:

Thanks for looking. I waited to post pics til I know she received it. I’d love to hear what you think- or tips to make it easier next time!

Mother's Day 2008

It’s amazing how a little flour, a lot of eggs and milk mixed together make the most delicious brunch food! My Mother’s Day for the past 8 or 9 years has been to make Dutch Babies for my mom. Dutch Babies is a recipe handed down in our family- they’re a little like German pancakes or crepes- the main difference is the secret ingredient- nutmeg. Yum…… they come out of the oven all poofy and beautiful:

Then, you add a little butter and a lot of lemon juice and powdered sugar:

And you enjoy thoroughly:

Some of us like to mix it up a little bit and add some fresh strawberries too:

And then after you have cooked breakfast for 17 people and worked your hiney off all morning tirelessly, you enjoy some lemon drops and a game of Cranium.

(Ok, ok, I didn’t cook everything all by myself- each sibling took care of one part of the meal- really all I did was coordinate and cook the dutch babies.)

Happy Mother’s Day!! I hope that every mother out there feels celebrated and needed everyday, but especially on this Mother’s Day!!

How do you celebrate?
