What is ArtistryLive?

I have a ton of journals. I have one for altered art ideas, sewing ideas, spirituality thoughts, holiday ideas, ideas for my dream house.... and while we're at it, DIY!! Do It Yourself- that is what this place is ALL ABOUT!! Today, it seems like so many processes and products are mass produced, mass marketed, over processed, manufactured, plastic and so many items have lost all individuality. Let's take it back! Items that are created by hand, created with your hard work and sweat will be so much more treasured than some "thing" you found in the latest biggest hyped up store. And there are tools and supplies to make your diy-ing easier too. In this fast paced, time constrained world, slow down, gather up some supplies and make something for yourself... or your family.

In these pages, you will find instructions, patterns, tips, tutorials, links, etc... for diy-ing cloth and wooden toys and dolls, items for your home, gifts for the holidays or just any day, crafts to do wth your kiddos and articles on breastfeeding, cloth diapering and other natural living subjects. Also find links to other sites that advocate diy-ing and living a more natural way.

Why did I create this site?

I try to be prolific in my creation of altered art, collage art and mixed media art. I also love sewing for myself and my family. I keep journals in which I detail all of my exploits with different art, sewing and crafting techniques, like painting, rubber stamping, quilting, soap-making and details of most of the projects or ideas I might have. Whenever I have need for a new technique or project, I would search on-line for a tutorial, but they are few and far between to find! Patterns for sewing are even harder to find.

Then it occured to me, why not put them all in one place? I'm betting that other artists and diy-ers would love to see how some techniques turn out and get ideas for new ones. I am also hoping that other artists and diy-ers will contribute and share their successes and failures, their ideas for projects and crafts, to create a directory of the best tutorials!!

Email me to see how you can contribute!

You may find that some ideas and topics may be very varied. I have included any ideas which may relate even indirectly to art, sewing and more natural living. Even the most mundane items can be beautiful and I try to add as much beauty and art into my life as possible.

Who am I?

I am a mama with a 2 year old terror, I have made all of my daughter's diapers, covers, many clothes and toys. I am a wife who creates gifts, clothing and accessories for my husband. I am a daycare provider who tries to replace the plastic toys with cloth and wood. I am an artiste. I am a sewer. I am a DIY-er!

I sew, I am into altered art and I am just delving into soap and salve making. If I can make it instead of buy it, I will- cheaper or not! I love to create Christmas and other holiday gifts, toys for my daughter and many many household items. In regards to altered art, my special preference is shrines, but I will alter many things and I have tried bookbinding, block printing, scrapbooking and ATCs.

In my work as a pre-k teacher (in a previous life, it seems), I create many items for my class- puppets, manipulatives, and work materials that I invent or can make a for a good deal cheaper than many school supply catalogs. I am in the process of creating a website to display and offer these items for other teachers to use.
